Alicia Machado, the beauty queen, actress and model, was born Yoseph Alicia Machado Fajardo on December 6, 1976 located in Maracay, Venezuela. Alicia has a diverse background. Her parents are both from Cuban descent. Her career has included a significant character in films, television, and beauty pageants all her career. Machado's meteoric rise to fame began when she was awarded Miss Venezuela in 1995 at 19 years old, which was the name of her state Yaracuy. Her crowning accomplishment came a year later, when she was awarded the Miss Universe 1996 title, the fourth Venezuelan to win the coveted title. Her time as Miss Universe however was marked by negative press coverage and controversy due to the fact that she gained weight.
